The Californian is a quaint historic building located in the western portion of downtown Long Beach. It often gets missed as many focus on the Wilmore building that is located directly east. At just 5 stories tall it is one of the smaller historic buildings in Downtown Long Beach but it still has much to offer. Built in 1924 it has kept much of it’s character that it was originally built with and boasts a rich brick exterior.

Joseph Halstead Roberts was the architect behind the Californian. He embodied the 1920’s era and gave the Californian an unique style. Over the years he was responsible for approximately 70 structures throughout Long Beach.
